The team asked me to create an emblem for use on merchandise, stickers, and similar applications. At the time, I was deeply interested in blackletter typography, which made it a natural fit for the project, as blackletter and newspaper design traditionally go hand in hand. I was also tasked with creating a masthead for the following year, which I approached by starting with a blackletter foundation and stylizing it into a cross-stitch–inspired illustration.
